Morgennebel - Morning mist
Mit dem neuen Untersatz möchte man natürlich dann auch einmal ein wenig herumfahren. Das Mekongdelta bietet sich für Ausflüge eigentlich ideal an, da hier jede Stadt mit der anderen verbunden ist. Vor einiger Zeit schon hatte ich einige interessante Oc Eo-Fundstellen ins Auge gefasst, aber die Besuche aus verschiedenen Gründen immer wieder verschoben. Gestern fragte ich dann meinen Freund Toan, ob er mit nach Kien Giang kommen wolle. Er war zwar nicht so begeistert, da es auf dem Motorrad war, aber kam dann doch mit.
Rach Gia
Früh morgens ging es dann los. Ich schon grummelig: Toan hatte 4.00 Uhr gesagt, ich wollte um 5.30 Uhr losfahren. Na, ratet mal, wer um 4.00 Uhr vor Toans Haus stand und 50 Minuten warten musste? Ja, richtig...Wir fuhren also im Morgennebel durch das wilde Can Tho. In Thot Not gab es dann Frühstück und gegen neun erreichten wir Rach Gia. Mein Plan war, die Fundstelle Nền Chùa bis Mittags, und nach dem Mittagessen, Vòng Xoài zu erreichen. Nền Chùa gab ich dann bald auf. Und super! Die tolle Karte, die ich hatte, und die sagte, dass Vong Xoai in Kien Giang läge, brachte mich dann um den Verstand.

Denn Vong Xoai liegt in Kien Giang, aber nur einen Hüftsprung von Ba The. Und Ba The - Nicht-Archäologen brauchen das nicht zu wissen, ist der Ort von Oc Eo. Also dem eponymen Fundort. Kien Giang reicht wie eine Spitze in die Provinz An Giang hinein. So dass irrsinnigerweise Vong Xoai zwischen Linh Son und Go Cay Thi zu erreichen ist. Nun, wie soll man das auch wissen, denn Vietnamesen wissen dies ja selber nicht. Die meisten schickten uns einfach zu Go Cay Thi, so unter dem Motto. Yo, der blöde Ausländer weiß doch eh nicht, wo was ist...
Go Cay Thi
Vong Xoai ist eine Fundstelle, die erst 2001 ergraben wurde. Und einige interessante Funde, darunter auch einige Grabbefunde ergeben haben. Auch Glas ist darunter, das man im Provinzmuseum in Rach Gia bewundern kann. Die Fundstelle selber liegt in einem Wäldchen und ist nicht direkt zugänglich. Die Ziegelkonstruktionen sind eh unter der Erde verborgen. Bis auf einen alten Brunnen findet sich hier nichts. Im Planfeststellungsverfahren befindet sich ein Ausbau als touristische Destination.

Da wir nun in Ba The waren, konnte Toan mir dann stolz mitteilen, dass er aus Ba The kommt (wenn er da her kommt, warum kennt er dann Vong Xoai nicht???). Na egal. Also, zum Abschluss des Ausflugs gab es dann noch einen Besuch bei seiner Familie. Zurück ging es dann über eine grauenhafte Straße über Long Xuyen nach Can Tho. Bin auf jeden Fall total gerädert.

Vong Xoai- Fundstelle - Vong Xoai site
Now having a new motorbike I wish to cruise around a little. With the bus or taxi all is expensive and so difficult. The Mekong Delta is quite easy to drive around since all cities are connected via streets with each other. Since a long time I wanted to visit some Oc Eo sites in other provinces, but always was busy doing this. Yesterday I asked my friend Toan to go with me to Kien Giang. He was not really happy hearing I go with a motorbike. Most Vietnamese do not like go far away. But finally he accepted.
Vong Xoai
We went early in the morning. I was little mumbling since Toan asked me to come at 4.00 am to his house and I actually wanted 5.30 am. So, now guess, who was at 4.00 am at Toan's house and had to wait 50 minutes since he was not wake up? Yeah...Then we started and drove through the morning mist of wild Can Tho. In Thot Not we had a breakfast and reached Rach Gia at 9.00 am. My plan was to visit the site of Nen Chua and then have a lunch. In afternoon I wanted visit Vong Xoai. But I despaired looking for Nen Chua, so we made our way to Vong Xoai. My map said, Vong Xoai was in Kien Giang, but everybody we asked said it was in An Giang. It drove me crazy!
Vong Xoai Fundstelle - Vong Xoai
The answer to this question is easy. Vong Xoai lies in Kien Giang but only a step away from Ba The Mountain. And Ba The - non-archaeologists do not need to know that - is the place of Oc Eo, the eponyme name for this culture. Kian Giang reaches here like a chock into An Giang. And this is the reason why strangely Vong Xoai lies between the way of Linh Son to Go Cay Thi. And how shall I know this, since also Vietnamese do not know this! Most of the people in the near send me to Go Cay Thi, meaning they thought me, the dumb tourist, will not see the difference between all places.
Toan in seinem Garten - Toan in his garden
Vong Xoai is a site which was excavated in 2001. Some interesting features were revealed, also some burials from Oc Eo Culture. Also some glass was found, which is presented in Kien Giang Provincial Museum in Rach Gia. The site itself is situated in a small wood and not directly accessible. Most of the brick constructions are now under the earth. You can only see one small well. The Commitee in Rach Gia is planning to build this site to a tourist destination.
Since we were now in Ba The, Toan proudly told me now that his hometown is Ba The (but, why he did not know about Vog Xoai, when he comes from here). But ok. Finishing our tour we visited his family in a small hamlet near Ba The mountain. Back to Can Tho we went on a really badly damaged road over Long Xuyen and Thot Not. I am really tired now.
