I already shared some impressions with you guys from my trip through east Africa on Instagram (vicko_m). Today’s blogpost is all about glamping in Tanzania, ready?
You ask what is glamping? – I say it’s like camping, just more glamorous turning it into glamping.
Auf Instagram (vicko_m) habe ich euch bereits die ersten Eindrücke meiner Afrika-Reise gezeigt. Und heute dreht sich alles um Glamping in Tanzania, bereit?
Ihr fragt euch was Glamping ist? – Ich verrate es euch: es ist wie camping, nur ein bisschen glamouröser und deswegen nennt man das Ganze nun eben Glamping.

where did we stay & how for how long?
We planned our tour through Tanzania together with the Simba Portfolio. It’s a collection of three lodges in Tanzania and their service as well as the lodges were blissfully. Thanks to the research I’ve done before hand, I knew that the Ngorongoro Crater as well as the Serengti were two must-sees. The very helpful team of the Simba Portfolio, recommend to spend five days in total with to have enough time to explore both, the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti National Park. It was more than enough time to really enjoy and learn about the wildlife. I will share some more information about going on a game drive in a separate post.
But now let’s get down to the glamping in Tanzania part – all lodges are luxurious tents with electricity and hot water. We stayed in two different lodges to enjoy our trip to the fullest without being too stressed and both were absolutely perfect. There is a pool at both lodges, cozy fireplaces and the most stunning sunsets you’ll see. All stays are all-inclusive with a fine selection of food and drinks. Even if you go on day trips (which most of the trips you’ll take are) you’ll get lunch boxes packed with delicious meals.
wo haben wir übernachtet & wie lange waren wir unterwegs?
Unsere Rundreise durch Tanzania haben wir mithilfe des Simba Portfolios geplant. In dem Portfolio sind drei unterschiedliche Lodges zusammengefasst. Die Serviceleistung und die Hilfestellung von Simba Portfolio waren einfach perfekt. Vor unserer Abreise habe ich ziemlich viel recherchiert und wusste somit, dass in Tanzania der Ngorongoro Crater und der Serengeti Nationalpark zwei absolute Must-sees sind. Das Team des Portfolios hat uns daraufhin empfohlen uns insgesamt fünf Tage Zeit zunehmen, um den Krater sowie den Nationalpark zu besichtigen. Es war mehr als genug Zeit, um wirklich alles richtig zu genießen. Ich werde in einem euch noch einen getrennten Post zur Safari in Kenia und Tanzania zeigen.
Aber jetzt kommen wir mal zum Glamping in Tanzania. Denn alle Lodges des Portfolios sind luxuriöse Zelte mit Elektrizität und warmen Wasser. Wir haben in zwei unterschiedlichen Lodges geschlafen, um unsere Reise möglichst angenehm und stressfrei gestalten zu können. Beide Lodges waren wirklich wunderschön. Es gab einen Pool, gemütliche Lagefeuer und die schönsten Sonnenuntergänge überhaupt. Die Buchung fallen immer in die Kategorie “All-inclusive”, sodass man selbst für Tagesausflüge (und das sind die meisten Trips, die man unternimmt) immer eine leckere Lunchbox bekommt.
what I really liked:
- Organisation. As mentioned above, the staff helped us organizing our trip through Tanzania and made sure that we can enjoy it to the fullest. They also took care of organizing a driver for us who was with us at all times. It was a stress-free and quick process of planning and getting our trip planned.
- Wifi. Even though the lodges are in the remotest places, there is always a Wifi connection so that you can get in touch with you loved ones at home for a little update and share some impressions on Instagram.
- Food. The food was excellent and different meals were served daily – some of them were even European styled dishes. The guest can help themselves to coffee and tea in the afternoon which is free of charge.
- Ambience. The flair of the lodges were incredible. Simba Portfolio tried their best to bring as much amenities and luxury to such remote places to make the stay incredible. The staff was friendly, helpful and always smiling.
- Safety. Because the lodges are in such remote areas, guests are not allowed to walk the property by themselves during the dark because wild animals might be close to the lodges. However, there are safety guards that will accompany you at any time to your tent.

- Organisation. Wie oben schon erwähnt hat Simba Portfolio uns bei der Planung und Umsetzung unserer Reise durch Tanzania geholfen und haben sichergestellt, dass wir unseren Aufenthalt richtig genießen können. Sie haben sich sogar um einen Fahrer für uns gekümmert, der mit uns die Ausflüge in die Parks gemacht hat. Es war ein stressfreier und schneller Prozess – genauso wie es sein sollte!
- Wifi. Ok, ok. Ich weiß, ab und zu kann man sich auch dem digitalen Detox hingeben. Aber es ist trotzdem toll an den abgelegensten Orten eine Internetverbindung vorzufinden, die es einem ermöglich mit den Lieben zu Hause in Kontakt zu treten oder ab und an ein Bild auf Instagram hochzuladen.
- Essen. Das Essen war wirklich lecker, gesund und abwechslungsreich. Täglich wurden unterschiedliche Gerichte serviert, sodass wir innerhalb der fünf Tage nie dasselbe essen mussten. Einige der Gerichte waren sogar europäisch angehaucht und wirklich jeder Gast wurde fündig.
- Ambiente. Das ist wohl mein liebster Punkt, denn das Ambiente war einfach einzigartige: die Lage, die Stille, die Aussicht und das überaus nette und hilfreiche Personal, das stets ein Lächeln auf den Lippen trägt.
- Sicherheit. Die Lodges liege alle angrenzten an das Wildlife. Deswegen kann es auch ab und an vorkommen, dass sich eines der Tiere in die Nähe der Lodges verirrt. Aus diesem Grund dürfen sich Gäste im Dunkeln nicht ohne einen Sicherheitsguard auf dem Gelände bewegen. Wir hatten glücklicherweise keine Begegnung mit einem wilden Tier vor unserer “Haustür”, jedoch konnten wir vor allem die Zebras nachts ziemlich laut hören.
what I didn’t like:
- Darkness. Both lodges were quiet dark in the evening resulting from the fact that only energy saving bulbs are used which in the end is really good thing.
- Cold. It was really, really cold – something you can’t really blame the lodges for but rather the weather god Petrus. However, the lodges did their best to keep the guest warm and every night there was a hot water bottle waiting in bed for you – so, so nice! In the end sometimes bad things turn into really good things…
was mir nicht gefallen hat:
- Dunkelheit. In beiden Lodges war es gegen Abend hin immer recht dunkel. Die Ursache hierfür waren die Enrgiesparbirnen. Die Nutzung solcher Glühbirnen ist vor Ort unumgänglich, denn Strom ist wirkliche Mangelware. Jedoch ist es eine Umstellung für den verwöhnten Europäer.
- Kälte. Tja und ich dachte in Afrika sei es immer warm. Weit gefehlt – und ist mal wieder eine Tatsache, die nicht wirklich den Lodges zugeschrieben werden kann. Aber die Kälte war wirklich schrecklich und somit gilt diese kleine Beschwerde mehr Petrus als den Lodges. Denn diese habe sich so bemüht, es uns dennoch gemütlich zu machen und so wartete jeden Abend eine heiße Wärmeflasche im Bett auf uns. Ende gut, alles gut!
