Obwohl ich die Reise quer durch Asien alleine antrete, bin ich es doch nicht so ganz. Schon vor dem Abflug ist das Klären des richtigen Gepäcks eine der Grundfragen eines jeden Backpackers. Großes Kopfzerbrechen bereitet mir dabei immer die Wahl meiner Schuhe. Knapp 200 Paar stehen zu Hause und jedes einzelne scheint mich vor der Reise zu bitten, es diesmal mitzunehmen. So finden sich in der munteren Reisegruppe also Rivieras, Espadrijs, Piedros und ein Paar von Conleys zusammen. Bunt gemischt in allen Farben, reflektiert die Auswahl meine freudige Stimmung. Insgesamt bin ich daher gar nicht wirklich allein, sondern reise mit 8 Zwillingsfreunden einmal quer um die Welt. So beginnen wir unsere Reise auf den Philippinen.
Ob am Strand, auf den traditionellen Booten oder entspannt auf der Terrasse vor unserem Cottage, scheinen die ersten Eindrücke schier überwältigend.
Von dort aus verschlägt es uns nach zwei Wochen im Paradies nach Kuala Lumpur. Dort kommen wir nicht drum herum, den Petronas Twin Towers unsere Aufwartung zu machen.
421m hoch, staunen wir sowohl tagsüber, als auch nachts über diesen beeindruckenden Anblick. Nach diesem leider viel zu kurzen Zwischenstopp, zieht es uns weiter nach Singapur. Diese pulsierende Metropole zeigt sich besonders im Gardens by the Bay mit dem Marina Bay Sands Hotel von seiner beeindruckendsten Seite.
So verweilen wir bis zum Sonnenuntergang und genießen bei Nacht das Lichterspektakel der künstlich angelegten Bäume. Lange haben wir nicht Zeit, denn es zieht uns weiter nach Indonesien. Die Trauminsel Bali erwartet uns mit einer gespenstig schönen Landschaft und Stimmung. So fahren wir vorbei an Opfergaben und Schreinen und stoppen immer wieder, um die unzähligen Tempelanlagen zu bewundern. So ziehen sechs Wochen wie im Flug vorbei, ohne das Gefühl der Einsamkeit, aber dafür beladen mit einer Vielzahl von Eindrücken und Bildern.
Even though it seems that I travel through Asia all by myself, it doesn’t feel like this at all. Before leaving, one of the most important things on a backpacker’s check list is to make sure that he’s packing the right luggage. The decision about the shoes I want to take with me is probably the hardest.
I am lucky and able to pick out of 200 pairs – and somehow it seems that each one is bagging me to take it with me on this trip. This time, my tour group consists of Rivieras, Espadrijs, Piedros and a pair of Conley shoes. The colors of my companions reflect my happy mood. All in all you see that I´m not really alone, but travel around the world with 8 twin friends by my side.
We start our adventure on the Philippines. Here, we soak up dozens of impressions while lying on the beach, sitting in front of our cottage in Palawan or on top of the rice terraces in Banaue. After two weeks we have to leave our paradise to go to Kuala Lumpur.
One of our most important stops in this city are the Petronas Twin towers. Even though we aren´t able to go on top of this 421m high building, we enjoy the view by day and night. Unfortunately we have to leave Kuala Lumpur after a few days to explore Singapore. On our first day we stop at the Gardens by the Bay, in front of the Marina Bay Sands hotel. The light show of this garden at night is even more impressive than the amazing sky walk by day.
Our journey proceeds in Indonesia. On Bali we discover impressive landscapes that are marked by the religious side of the island. Here, we discover shrines and especially the outstanding temple complexes. Six weeks pass by in the blink of an eye, with the certainty that I haven´t been alone for one single moment of my journey. Instead my shoes an I have collected oodles of impressions, pictures and experiences.
