Time to write a review and share tons of photos about my stay at the Schloss Elmau – belonging to Leading Hotels of the World – last week. You saw the first pics already on Instagram, but this time I want to take the time to share impressions and my resume with you. I will try to write this in different paragrahs and add the photos directly to the paragraph.
Es ist an der Zeit Euch Fotos von meinem Aufenthalt in der letzten Woche, sowie eine persönliche Bewertung zu meinem Aufenthalt in Schloss Elmau zu schreiben, dass zu Leading Hotels of the World gehört. Ich werde es diesmal in verschiedenen Absätzen machen und die Fotos jeweils direkt hinzuzufügen. Also viel Spass beim Lesen und Scrollen
Location: Schloss Elmau is located near the German/Austrian border, about 75-90 minutes away from Munich in the Alps and about 20 minutes from Garmisch Partenkirchen. The final 7km to Schloss Elmau is a small (toll-)road without houses around – so you might find a perfect spot if you want to relax and be for yourself. The view and mountains around are fantastic, especially in winter, the snow, blue sky, the mountains – a paradise. – To find the entrace in the winter months might be a little bit difficult – if you are not sure of the road, you should contact the hotel in advance by phone to pick you up.
Lage: Schloss Elmau ist Nahe der deutsch/österreichischen Grenze gelegen, nur ca. 75-90 Fahrminuten von München gelegen und ca. 20 Minuten von Garmisch Partenkirchen. Die letzten 7km bis zum Schloss Elmau ist eine private (Maut-)Strasse ohne Häuser – also der perfekte Platz für alle, die die absolute Ruhe suchen. Der Blick auf die Berge ist fantastisch, gerade im Winter, der Schnee, der blaue Himmel und Berge – ein Paradies… Den Eingang zum Schloss und zum Empfang zu finden, ist ein wenig schwieriger – wenn Ihr euch auf der Straße (gerade mit dem ganzen Schnee) nicht sicher seid, kontaktiert das Hotel um eine Abholung zu veranlassen.
Checkin: After personal pickup on my car and guided to the small front-desk directly on entrance, everything was nearly prepared and after five waiting minutes I received a tour to my room and the bell-captain took care on my luggage
Anmeldung: Nach einer persönlichen Begrüßung direkt am Auto und Begleitung zum kleinen Front Desk, war alles weitesgehend bereits vorbereitet und nach fünf Minuten Wartezeit wurde ich zum Zimmer gebracht und der Bell-Captain kümmerte sich um das Gepäck:
Room/Accomodations: For me, as a Starwood-Platinum-Guest over the last ten years it was interesting to go back to a different hotel company and received a Deluxe-Room with balcony and terrace – the room was about 39sqm and contains a small sitting area with table, comfortable bed and small working area (Wifi with problems on my arrival day), closed in the entrance area and bathroom with shower (no bathtube). Two steps to go on my private balcony, full of snow – but with gorgeous mountain view. The Wifi is complementary (more about it at the end of the posting), same as the fruits and water on the room (minibar included!). So valuable furniture, all you need on a room and perfect to start with a trip to the so-famous wellness and spa-area.
Zimmer/Unterkunft: Für ich als Starwood-Platinum-Gast der letzten zehn Jahre, was es interessant wieder einmal bei einer anderen Hotelkette einzuchecken und ich erhielt ein Deluxe-Zimmer mit Balkon/Terasse – die Zimmergröße lag bei ca. 39qm und enthielt eine kleine Sitzgelegenheit mit Minitisch, einem komfortablen Bett und eine kleine Arbeitsecke (Wifi hatte allerdings Probleme), einem Schrank im Eingangsbereich und einem Badezimmer mit Dusche (ohne Wanne).
Spa/Wellness: The spa- and wellness area is located in a seperate building connect on the lower floor with the main castle building and offers on 4 levels different pools, treatments and relaxing areas. For me, arriving with a small cold, I decided not to use the treatments and spend my times in the two heated outdoor pools, the infinity pool on the top floor and the heated saltwater pool on the ground level, both areas offer a huge relax and silent area with blankets, complementary tee and fruits and open most days from 7am to 10pm. I have to say it is always a special feeling, swimming outside with all the snow and have a gorgeous mountain view. I have to say that makes this place special.
Spabereich/Wellness: Der Spa- und Wellnessbereich im Schloss Elmau ist in einem seperaten Gebäude untergebracht und über einen Tunnel mit dem Hauptgebäude verbunden. Der Spa-Bereich bietet auf vier Etagen verschiedensten Behandlungen und Sportprogramme, sowie zwei sehr schöne Pools (Infinity-Pool auf dem Dach, Solbecken im Erdgeschoss). Beide Etagen verfügen jeweils über große Ruhezonen, mit ausreichend Decken, Kaminen, kostenlosem Tee und Früchten und sind in der Regel von 7 bis 22 Uhr geöffnet. Ich muss schon sagen, dass es ein besonderes Feeling ist, im Winter draußen zu schwimmen, mit dem ganzen Schnee und dem tollen Blick auf die Berge. Ich muss schon sagen, dass soetwas den Platz immer wieder besonders macht.
Restaurants/Breakfast: The hotel offers different restaurants for the evening and breakfast and is really helpful/interested to make the table reservation for you for the evening. (they have different offers starting with 85 EUR p.p. – up to 170 EUR p.p.) – but I decided to take dinner with friends in Garmisch Partenkirchen for different reasons… For breakfast you have two choices – the regular restaurant or the small restaurant which is not available for family with kids below 16 years – so a little bit more silent (I choose the silent breakfast…) – The restaurants offers different cereals, kinds of breads and croissants, danish pastries, fresh fruits and juices and also different styles of eggs and omeletts (without extra charge) on request. The breakfast is “included” – but more about it at the end of the posting…
Restaurant/Frühstück: Das Hotel bietet verschiedene Retaurants für den Abend und das Frühstück an und ist sehr hilfsbereit/interessiert, eine Tischreservierung für den Abend vorzunehmen (es gibt verschiedene Angebote ab 85 EUR p.P. bis hin zu 170 EUR pro Person) – aber ich habe mich entschieden mich mit Freunden in Garmisch-Partenkirchen aus verschiedenen Gründen zu treffen und kann daher die Qualität – dieses – Essens nicht bewerten… Für das Frühstück gibt es zwei Möglichkeiten – das reguläre Restaurant oder das kleine Restaurant im Spa-Bereich welches nur für Erwachsene zugänglich ist und daher etwas ruhiger (ich habe mich für diese Version entschieden…)… Es werden verschiedene Müsli-Sorten, Brote, Croissants und Gebäck angeboten, frische Früche und Säfte und verschiedenste Eierspeisen (ohne Extrakosten) auf Anfrage. Das Frühstück ist “inklusive” – aber mehr dazu findet Ihr am Ende des Postings…
Result: You have to split the result of this property in two groups – the location, the mountains and the wellness offers you can get are fantastic and a must-visit-spot, the staff of the hotel is friendly and helpful and tries to be very polite – but always asking for additional on-charge reservations (for skiing, transfers, restaurants, etc.). It was a wonderful experience and it seemed that the winter season might be the best time of the year for this hotel. As you know I stayed in hundreds of hotels over the last ten years, so I saw a lot of places and services and had to say – very interesting place, thank you to Leading Hotels for giving me this chance and experience and possibility to write about this hotel.
For this hotel my age was extremly below the average – most guests are couples of 50 – 70 years, spending more than a night on this property and want to have a relaxing and silent time, most guests are not there for the first time and spoke about coming back.
Price: Now we come to the very interesting part… I stayed in the off-season (lowest rates of the year) – and if I had to pay for this hotel the room-rate is 350,00 EUR per night, plus 93,00 EUR (per Person per day) a so called “Hotel-Resort Fee” (including breakfast, tee and fruits in the spa-area, apples in your room, wireless-internet and a few more small amenities and discounts for dinner) plus 0,60 EUR per Person visitors tax – makes a total of 537,20 EUR – parking fee is 10 EUR and not included! So if you want to spend the day in the spa and get a treatment per person plus having dinner at the hotel you should expect approx. 1000 EUR per night…
My opinion: Thanks for having the chance to write about it and being invited to this wonderful place and requesting my honest result. When checking the price of about 500,00 EUR (incl. breakfast) per night – I would recommend – especially for younger guests to choose another property – also about 90 minutes away from Munich – and going to Schloss Fuschl (near Salzburg) with a beautiful city in the neighbourhood, better shopping possibilites and having on this 5-Star-Luxury-Resort by Starwood (so same standard) better rooms starting with 250,00 EUR per night (for 2 people)
Fazit: Man sollte das Fazit für das Schloss Elmau in zwei Bereiche aufteilen – die Location, die Berge und das Wellness-Angebot sind fantastisch und wären ein Pflichtbesucht, das Personal des Hauses ist sehr freundlich, hilfsbereit und höflich – aber versucht auch durchgehend weitere Reservierungen und Programme zu buchen (z.B. Skitour, Transfers, Restaurants, etc.). Es war eine sehr schöne Erfahrung und ist wohl in den Wintermonaten die beste Reisezeit und wirkt besonders schön. Wie Ihr wisst, habe ich in vielen hundert Hotels in den letzten zehn Jahren verbracht, so dass ich einige Plätze und Services bereits kenne – daher interessanter Ort, ein besonderer Dank an Leading Hotels of the World für diese Chance und Erfahrung und die Möglichkeit, so über das Haus schreiben zu können.
Für das Hotel habe ich den Altersdurchschnitt gravierend gesenkt – die meisten Gäste waren Paare zwischen 50 und 70 Jahren, die mehr als eine Nacht im Haus verbringen und auf der Suche nach einem ruhigen Aufenthalt waren und nicht zum ersten Mal in Schloss Elmau waren.
Preis: Jetzt kommen wir zum interessanten Teil… Ich habe in der absoluten Nebensaison im Hotel übernachtet und ich hätte für das Zimmer die Rate von 350,00 EUR pro Nacht, hinzu kommt 93,00 EUR (pro Person und Tag) für die “Schloss-Elmau-Pauschale” (darin enthalten Frühstück, Tee und Früchte im Spa-Bereich, Äpfel auf dem Zimmer, Wifi und kleine Annehmlichkeiten, sowie Vergünstigungen beim Abendessen) sowie 0,60 EUR pro Person für die Kurtaxe – macht eine Gesamtsumme von 537,20 EUR – die Parkgebühren von 10 EUR waren noch nicht inklusive. Also wenn Ihr wirklich einen Aufenthalt mit Spa und Behandlung und einem Abendessen in meinem Zimmer verbringen möchtet, solltet Ihr ca. 1.000 EUR pro Nacht einkalkulieren…
Meine Meinung: Dankeschön für die Chance hierüber schreiben zu können und an diesen besonderen Ort eingeladen zu werden und meine ehrliche Meinung. Wenn man den Preis von 500,00 EUR pro Nacht (allerdings inkl. Frühstück 
) sieht, würde ich ein Haus, gerade für jüngere Gäste empfehlen, welches auch nur 90 Minuten von München entfernt liegt – das Schloss Fuschl Resort (nahe Salzburg) mit der schönen Stadt Salzburg in direkter Nachbarschaft, besseren Einkaufsmöglichkeiten und auch ein 5-Sterne-Haus. Das Starwood/SPG Hotel aus der Luxury Collection hätte für die gleiche Reisezeit und besseren Zimmern (inkl. Frühstück) ca. 250,00 EUR genommen (mit mehrgängigem Abendessen ca. 400,00 EUR) – für 2 Personen…
