My Name is Claude is a formation around the singer Claude Ferland. He also plays piano and uses electronic sound installations. He is accompanied by harp and contrabass. The music is a mélange of classical, baroque music and melancholic pop, which pulls one in a spell, in a vortex of dark desire. The light show bathes the stage in a sea of blue light; creating a mythical illusion. His lyrics are infused with baroque motifs: of love and loneliness, of impermanence, of illusion and reality. Claude appears on stage not as a human being or a musican. He is rather a timeless and ageless creature. The singing and the playing of his instruments seem not to be directed to an audience; the spectator seems more to attend an intimate, natural process. No direct communication with the audience is taking place, the exterior world doesn’t touch the singer in this moment, he is inside the inner world. The fourth wall of theatre is maintained, the production is perfect, it is much more than an ordinary concert.
The strength of My Name is Claude lies in the intensity of the performance. A breath of myth on stage, an overdose glamour, a dance on the precipice of the soul.

My Name is Claude ist eine Formation um den Sänger Claude Ferland. Es selber spielt Piano und sorgt auch für elektronische Klänge. Begleitet wird er von Harfe und Kontrabass. Die Musik ist eine Mischung aus klassischer, barocker Musik und melancholischem Pop, die einem in ihren Sog zieht, in einen Strudel dunkler Sehnsucht. Die Lichtshow hüllt die Bühne in ein Meer aus vornehmlich blauem Licht, eine mythenhafte Illusion wird geschaffen. Die Liedtexte sind durchdrungen von barocken Motiven: von Liebe und Einsamkeit, von Vergänglichkeit, von Schein und Sein.
Claude erscheint auf der Bühne weniger als Mensch oder Musiker. Er ist vielmehr ein zeit- und alterloses Wesen. Der Gesang und das Spielen seiner Instrumente scheint er nicht für ein Publikum zu inszenieren, der Zuschauer scheint vielmehr einem intimen, natürlichen Prozess beizuwohnen. Es kommt zu keiner direkten Kommunikation mit dem Publikum, die äussere Welt berührt den Sänger in diesem Moment nicht, er befindet sich in der inneren Welt. Die Vierte Wand des Theaters bleibt aufrecht erhalten, die Inszenierung ist perfekt, es ist eben mehr als ein gewöhnliches Konzert.
Die Stärke von My Name is Claude liegt in der Intensität der Performance. Ein Hauch von Mythos auf der Bühne, eine Überdosis Glamour, ein Tanz am Abgrund der Seele.
