Unabhängig davon was wir über Neil Patrick Harris als Host der diesjährigen Oscar-Verleihung denken, es liegt wohl an dem Schauspieler selbst ob er noch einmal diese Rolle übernehmen wird. Und in einem Interview mit der Huffington Post äußerste Harris Bedenken. Es klingt eher danach, dass wir ihn nicht noch einmal als Gastgeber der Academy Awards zu Gesicht bekommen.

Harris wurde jedoch nicht durch und durch als guter Host aufgenommen. Einige Kritiken bemängeln die Flachen Jokes, die er immer wieder während der Award-Show einbrachte. Dementgegen wurde vor allem seine Eröffnungsnummer mit reichlich Lorbeeren geschmückt. In dem Interview äußert er sich zu seinem eigenen Verhalten gegenüber Kritiken und ob er überhaupt die Nachberichterstattung verfolgen würde.
I didn't keep up with it obsessively, but it was interesting to see just what people thought landed and didn't. It's so difficult for one who's simply watching the show to realize just how much time and concession and compromise and explanation has gone into almost every single thing. Every joke. Wording of joke. Placement of joke. Canceling of joke. Embellishment for just one line. And I'm not saying that to defend everything I said as if it was the absolute best choice, but it's also an award show, and you're powering through 14 acts filled with 20 plus awards. So my job was to try and keep things as light and specific to this year's set of films as possible. And if people are critical of that, it's a big giant platform, so I would assume that they would be.
Nebenher wurde die Frage nach einem Sequel zu der 2008er Mini-Serie Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog von Joss Whedon gestellt. Harris würde es lieben hierfür zurückzukehren, erklärt aber, dass alle Beteiligten viele andere Dinge zu tun hätten.
I would love to. Everyone's been champing at the bit to do so. They've written songs. They have an outline and stuff ... but we're all working on other things at the moment, so it's hard to find the time.
Verständlich. Joss Whedon (Autor) ist noch mit dem Mammutprojekt Avengers beschäftigt, während Neil Patrick Harris (Dr. Horrible) seine Stimme dem Animationsfilm Der gute Dinosaurier der Pixar Animation Studios leiht und Nathan Fillion (Captain Hammer) ist noch in der Fernsehserie Castle beschäftigt.
Wie dem auch sei, ich glaube die Academy Awards müssen insgesamt wieder glamouröser werden und nicht allzu sehr auf flache Witze setzen. Vielleicht sollte man auch einfach All-Time Classic-Hosts wie Whoppie Goldberg, Billy Crystal oder Steve Martin zurückholen, die immer einen guten Job gemacht haben. Oder aber man nimmt erneut Hugh Jackman, der der Show ebenfalls einen nobleren Touch mitgegeben hat. Joss Whedon hat derweil noch keine Projekte nach The Avengers: Age of Ultron angekündigt. Gerne darf er die notwendigen Leute um sich versammeln um Dr. Horrible noch einmal aufleben zu lassen. Gerne auch im Kino.
