Gallery: “Edible” by Marija Ivosevic

Marija Ivosevic, born 1980 in Belgrade, is a multi-artist – covering fashion design and architecture, as well as product, set, and costume design .
Her studies have taken her to cities, such as Belgrade, Milan, and Berlin. Her work encompasses a wide range of different mediums and styles, from design to photography.
Here we view her collection called „Essbares/Edible”.

Ivosevic started this series without any concept at all but with inspiration fueled by paintings from the Dutch golden age, by Flemish and French still life works, and grotesque connotation.

She began to wonder what our relationship with food would be like if we had a different approach to the presentation and marketing for commercial purposes. She finds the conventional way of presenting food in a commercial way rather “dull” and uninteresting considering all the effort and money that is needed to educate and change the diet of the world population.

The medium Ivosevic chose for her “Essbares/Edible” series is photography:
“It would take me a decade to achieve what these guys were doing back there in the 17th century, with their impeccable painting techniques…So I have picked up a medium that is contemporary for me: Photography. A medium that I have been utilising for the past ten years. Later on it became more than just a „nice looking set-up“. For instance I´ve started studying symbolic meanings in images of Italian painters as well as work from the Symbolist period.”

According to Ivosevic “Essbares/Edible” is still incomplete.

We are most curious to see where this collection leads!

“It would take me a decade to achieve what these guys were doing back there in the 17th century, with their impeccable painting techniques…So I have picked up a medium that is contemporary for me: Photography. A medium that I have been utilising for the past ten years. Later on it became more than just a „nice looking set-up“. For instance I´ve started studying symbolic meanings in images of Italian painters as well as work from the Symbolist period.”.
