Xining ist die groesste Stadt in Westchina vor der grossen Einoede Qinghais und Tibet. Die Stadt liegt bereits auf 2300m. Der Ort ist einerseits unspektakulaer, hat aber andererseits seinen ganz eigenen Charme. Fuer uns ist das 4-Millionen-Kaff ein Beispiel der vielen ueberbevoelkerten Staedte Chinas, in dem es praktisch nur Wohnblocks und ein kleines Geschaeftsviertel gibt. Wir warten hier auf unsere Permits fuer Tibet und verbringen die Tage mit Ausruhen und einer mentalen Vorbereitung auf die 24-stuendige Zugfahrt (schon wieder harte Sitze) nach Lhasa.

On one side, this place is pretty unspectacular but it still has it's charmes. For us, this 4 million metropolis is a typical example of an overpopulated city which consists mostly of apartment blocks and a small business area. We're waiting here for our Tibet permits and kill the time relaxing and with mental preparation for the 24h-trainride to Lhasa (hard seats again!).
