Die neue Single 'Almond Eyes' der in Berlin lebenden 22-jährigen Künstlerin, Songwriterin und Produzentin Novaa beschäftigt sich mit dem Thema Selbstbestimmung und den Herausforderungen, denen sie sich als Frau in dieser Welt, in der das Verhalten oder das Aussehen oftmals als Rechtfertigung dafür genutzt wird, übergriffig zu werden, gegenübergestellt fühlt.
Mit einem Audio-Sample aus Antonias Welt - ein Film, der eng mit ihrer eigenen Geschichte verbunden ist (ihre Mutter benannte sie nach der Hauptfigur) und der eine starke feministische Sichtweise darstellt- verwebt Novaa ihre Vergangenheit und ihre Zukunft in ihrer Kunst:
„Das Wort Feminismus ist ein sehr belastetes Wort. Wenn man es benutzt, wird man oft in eine Schublade gesteckt, egal was man versucht zu sagen. Also habe ich es für einige Zeit nicht mehr benutzt, weil ich dachte, es würde Gespräche einfacher machen. Das war dumm und feige von mir, denn solange ich frei, offen und ehrlich darüber spreche, ist es egal welche Begriffe ich für die Konversation über Gleichstellung verwende. Wenn ich mich als Feministin bezeichne, heißt das nicht, dass ich Männer hasse. Es heißt, dass ich es hasse Menschen leiden zu sehen aufgrund ihres Geschlechts - weiblich oder männlich. Ich habe gelitten, weil ich mir selbst einredet hatte, dass es falsch ist, mein Wesen und meinen Körper als Frau zu schätzen. 'Almond Eyes' war meine Art, diesen Kampf zu teilen und mich davon zu befreien."
