Morgen um 07:00 Uhr Früh MESZ wird Kaz Hirai laut Reuters erstmals seit dem Einbruch in Japan vor die Presse treten: er ist, nach Howard Stringer, die Nummer Zwei bei der Sony Corp. Und Hauptverantwortlicher für das internationale Computer Entertainment – etwa in der Nachfolge von Phil Harrison bei den World Wide Studios, oder von Playstation-Gründer Ken Kutaragi. Seit 1. April steht er zudem der (gesamten) Consumer-Products-Einheit des Konzerns vor und galt – zumindest bis zum Einbruch – als wahrscheinlicher Nachfolger Stringers. Kotaku berichtet unterdessen, dass sich bei dem Fall mittlerweile auch die US-Heimatschutzbehörde eingeschaltet hat.

But Sony is not selling oil or greed, it’s selling pretty electronic gadgets and entertainment. It’s selling a dream, and so it needs to make sure its response chimes with the brand’s own properties of being in tune. It needs to be loved … Here’s Sony’s problem. In order for people to allow the brand into their lives, they have to identify with its values. Sony’s values have always been attractive and alluring. Right now, Sony is hiding. That’s not attractive. It does not allure. It frustrates and it annoys.”
