Kurz und gut…?
Noch gut erinnere ich mich daran, wie ich auf Bree Despains Auftakt ihrer Urbat-Trilogie aufmerksam geworden bin. Es war im Jahr 2011. Entweder las ich von diversen Bloggern, wie toll sie “Urbat. Die dunkle Gabe” fanden oder wie gern sie das Buch doch endlich lesen wollten. Als ich es dann bekam, las ich es sofort und war absolut gefangen von der Geschichte und Graces Schicksal. Im Auftakt tauchte auch das erste Mal Bruder Gabriel kurz auf. Bree Despain – durch die Faszination zu dieser Figur angefixt – widmete ihm eine Kurzgeschichte. Diese ist nichts anderes als eine Sammlung von Briefen, welche Bruder Gabriel an seine Schwester Katherine geschrieben hatte. Im ersten Buch gab es ja einen kleinen Vorgeschmack.
Für mich war es nun sehr interessant zu erfahren, was für Kämpfe Gabriel mit sich selbst bzw. seinem inneren Dämon ausfechten musste. Ich erfuhr mehr über seinen Ursprung und wie er jahrelang als Urbat lebte. Ich erfuhr, weshalb Gabriel das Schicksal eines Urbats nicht einfach hinnehmen kann und welch große Pein und Schuld in ihm wütet. Ich hätte schon gerne noch etwas mehr über ihn erfahren, aber verstehe wieso die Autorin sich für die Briefform entschieden hat. Für Fans der Urbat-Trilogie, ist dieses kleine ebook eine feine Sache. Denn so ging ich mit einem neuen Gefühl für Bruder Gabriel an das große Finale “Urbat. Gefährliche Gnade”. Nachfolgend sieht man die Worte der Autorin über Brother Gabriel. Die Worte von Bree Despain an ihre Leser habe ich nicht übersetzt.
“Brother Gabriel, Daniel’s mentor and an ancient Urbat, plays an important role in The Lost Saint as well as the upcoming conclusion to the Dark Divine trilogy, The Savage Grace. We were first introduced to Gabriel in The Dark Divine when Grace recieves a book of ancient letters that Gabriel (a young monk at the time) wrote to his sister during the Crusades, detailing his search to know more about the Urbat. The book of letters ends just before Gabriel falls to the Urbat curse, leaving us to wonder what happened to him in the following years to turn him into the man he is today.
Most of Gabriel’s letters were written during the thirteenth century, and later translated and compiled by an Orthodox priest in the eighteenth century. For whatever reason, some of Gabriel’s letters were lost after translation and did not make it into that original book. But good news! A few of these “lost letters,” detailing Gabriel’s fall to the Urbat curse and his quest to seek revenge on the man responsible for his demise, have recently been “discovered” by the indomitable crew at Egmont USA, and are compiled here for your reading pleasure.
I hope you enjoy The Lost Letters of Brother Gabriel. I think they give a lot more depth to Brother Gabriel’s character and the mythology of the Dark Divine trilogy.
