D Zum Lesen bin ich diesen Sommer unerwartet wenig gekommen, ein einziges Buch habe ich geschafft und zwar "Read This If You Want to Take Great Photographs
" von Henry Carroll. Ich habe das Buch auf Englisch gelesen, es gibt aber auch eine Deutsche Version namens BIG SHOTS! Die Geheimnisse der weltbesten Fotografen
.Dieses Buch möchte ich dir heute vorstellen, da mich schon viele gefragt haben wie es mir gefallen hat und ob ich es weiter empfehlen kann. Alle Angaben die ich hier mache beziehen sich auf das Englische Buch, da ich über das Deutsche nicht wirklich eine Aussage machen kann, ohne es gelesen zu haben. Aber fangen wir erstmal ganz vorne an, mit ein paar Infos und dem Klappentext:

Ich hatte das Buch sehr oft in der Hand, während ich durch den Urban Outfitters geschlendert bin und irgendwann dachte ich dann: so jetzt kaufst du es endlich und so ist das Buch dann mit mir nach hause gekommen. Ich muss sagen am meisten hat mich daran das tolle Layout des Covers beeindruckt, so schlicht und gleichzeitig aussagekräftig. Außerdem ist das Buch toll gedruckt, was für ein Buch mit Fotografien drin ja nicht unwichtig ist.
Erhofft hatte ich mir von dem Buch vielleicht einen neuen Blickwinkel oder zu verstehen, was ein grandioses Bild ausmacht für das Leute einen Haufen Geld zahlen und das in Museen ausgestellt wird. Ganz erfüllt wurde dieser Anspruch nicht, aber zumindest ein bisschen.
Im Buch behandelt jede Doppelseite ein Thema, auf einer Seite ist ein Bild, auf der anderen wird anhand des Bildes etwas erklärt. Ich muss sagen einige Bilder waren wirklich grandios und haben mir das Thema sehr viel näher gebracht, bei anderen allerdings verstehe ich immer noch nicht was der Autor oder alle anderen daran so toll finden. Viele Bilder darin sind in meinen Augen bestenfalls ganz gute Schnappschüsse. Aber das ist vielleicht auch Geschmacksache, so geht es mir bei Fotografie Ausstellungen nämlich auch des öfteren mal.
Ich glaube gerade für Anfänger ist das Buch richtig toll, es erklärt sehr gut die verschiedenen Kameraeinstellungen - was für mich jetzt nicht wirklich etwas neues war - aber es geht auch sehr auf den richtigen Blickwinkel ein. Was ich umso interessanter fand, denn Bildaufbau ist wirklich wichtig und man braucht ein geschultes Auge ab und an.
Das Buch beschäftigt sich der Reihe nach mit Komposition, Belichtung, Licht, Objektive und Sehen. Ich finde die Themenwahl sehr sinnvoll und durchdacht. Besonders interessant waren für mich das Kapitel Komposition und Sehen.
Insgesamt finde ich das Buch toll geschrieben, die Fotowahl ist in meinen Augen manchmal fragwürdig aber alles in allem würde ich es weiterempfehlen. Allerdings sollte man jetzt auch nicht erwarten, dass das Buch den absoluten Durchbruch bringt und einem nur neues erzählt. Es ist gut um Themen zu vertiefen und auch das ein oder andere Neue aufzuschnappen.

I found this book at Urban Outfitters and I often looked at it and some time ago finally bought it. Mostly I really loved the design and layout, because it's so simple but expressive. Besides the book is really good printed, what isn't that unimportant for a book about photography.
My expectation at this book was, that I wanted to get a new perspective and understand why some pictures get really famous and others don't. This claim wasn't answered totally, but at least a bit.
Every spread of this book has it's own topic, on one page a picture and on the other the topic gets explained by means of the picture. I really liked some pictures and the explanations also did a great job then, but others weren't that good and I couldn't understand why the author or other people liked them. Some pictures for me looked like snapshots, but maybe that's a matter of taste, because in some photography exhibitions I had the same problem.
I think for starters the book is really great, some different camera settings are explained - what wasn't that new for me - but one of the big topics is perspective. For me that topic is really important and interesting, because for a great composition you need a trained eye.
The book is all about the topics: Composition, Exposure, Light, Lenses and Seeing. I really like this choice of subject, for me the most interesting captures were composition and seeing.
To sum up, I think the book was great written, the photo selection was a little bit questionable but I can recommend it. However you shouldn't expect that the book is a huge breakthrough, it might not everything be totally new for you. But its good to deepen the topics and also read some new stuff.
