D Heute habe ich mal wieder eine Produktvorstellung für euch, dieses Mal geht es um ein Fotobuch von Saal-Digital. Der ein oder andere erinnert sich vielleicht, dass ich vor ungefähr 2 Jahren schonmal ein Fotobuch von Saal-Digital bekommen habe, die erste Kooperation die ich auf diesem Blog hatte. Seitdem hat sich bei mir einiges getan, sowohl an der Qualität der Bilder als was das bevorzugte Design für ein Fotobuch angeht. Gerade auf die ersten gedruckten Versionen von Bildern meiner neuen Kamera war ich sehr gespannt.

Since then a lot of things happend: the quality of my photos got a lot better and I like another kind of design. I was especially curious about the first printed pictures of my new camera.
D Bestellung und Lieferung
Saal-Digital hat seine eigene Software für Bestellungen, diese habe ich schon lange installiert, da ich dort des öfteren mal Bilder drucken lasse. Da mein Laptop noch nicht so alt ist, erinnere ich mich aber noch, dass es sehr leicht und ziemlich schnell ging war sie zu installieren.
In der Software kann man dann zwischen verschiedenen Produkten wählen. Beim Fotobuch kann man zu Beginn die Größe und Seitenanzahl auswählen, letztere kann aber auch im Erstellungsprozess noch verändert werden. Außerdem kann man zwischen mattem und glänzendem Papier wählen und sich zwischen verschiedenen Layouts entscheiden oder ein eigenes erstellen. Ich bin ein großer Fan davon solche Dinge individuell selbst zu erstellen. Alles in allem kam ich mit der Software sehr gut klar, ich habe lediglich zwei kleine Dinge zu bemängeln: Es gibt keinen Tool zum "zentrieren" - oder ich habe es zumindest nicht gefunden - das heißt wenn man ein Bild oder Schrift mittig ausrichten möchte muss man das mit den Linealen berechnen, nach Augenmaß machen oder mithilfe des Rasters. Außerdem gibt es für meinen Geschmack zu wenig Schriftarten. Die Standardschriftarten sind aber alle vertreten, somit konnte ich damit auch leben.
Sehr hilfreich bei der Gestaltung ist, dass man das Fotobuch in der Software zwischenspeichern kann und somit zu verschiedenen Zeitpunkten daran arbeiten. Zur Bestellung muss man das ganze dann nur noch in den Warenkorb werfen, Adresse und co. ausfüllen sowie Zahlungsart auswählen und dann wird es auch schon hochgeladen und geht somit bei Saal-Digital ein. Dafür das das Fotobuch mit seinen 28 Seiten sicherlich eine riesige Datei war, ging das recht schnell.
Mein 20x30 Fotobuch mit 28 Seiten und glänzendem Cover und Papier hätte mich 36,15 € gekostet.
Der Versand hat nur wenige Tage gedauert, ich habe es Samstag Abend bestellt und es kam Dienstags an. Der Standardversand innerhalb Deutschland kostet 3,95€.
E Booking and Delivery
Saal-Digital has it's own software to do orders, I already installed it some time ago because I always print my pictures with it. But my laptop isn't that old and so I remember pretty good that installing was easy and fast.
In the software you can choose between different products. When you choose the photobook you can select a size and number of pages, but you can also add pages while designing. Besides you can choose if you want shiny or faint paper and you can also select a layout or do your own. I'm a big fan of designing and so I made my own layout. Altogether the software was pretty easy to handle, but I missed some things. First of all I couldn't find a tool to center pictures and texts, so I always had to measure where the middle is with the rulers or grids. Besides for my taste there weren't enough fonts, but all the standard fonts were there so I can live with that.
A really helpful thing is, that you can save your design and work on it at another date. To order the book you just throw it in the consumer basket, give your address and so on and than you upload everything to Saal-Digital. The uploading was fast enough, it just needed some minutes and my photobook was a huge file.
My 20x30 photobook with 28 pages and shiny paper and cover costs 36,15€. The delivery just needed some days. And I know most of the people reading this english part of the blog don't live in Germany so I can tell you: they also deliver in a lot of other european countries.
D Das Produkt
Beim Design habe ich mich dieses mal für modern und schlicht entschieden, dabei habe ich nicht an Seiten gespart sodass sich auch mehrere leere Seiten oder Seiten mit nur ein wenig Text im Buch befinden. Das gefällt mir so ziemlich gut, da die Bilder dadurch einfach besser zur Geltung kommen, als wenn jede Seite total vollgepackt ist. Damit du das ganze Design sehen kannst, mache ich mir eine coole Funktion der Saal-Digital Homepage zu nutze. Dort kann man sein Fotobuch hochladen lassen und mit Leuten teilen. Wenn du das ganze Fotobuch sehen willst einfach mal hier klicken.
Saal-Digital verzichtet auf nervige Herstellerlogos, es gibt lediglich zwei kleine Barcodes, welche man aber auch durch einen kleinen Aufpreis entfernen könnte. Mir war es das nicht wert.
Außerdem verwendet Saal-Digital eine sogenannte Panoramabindung, was bedeutet, dass es nicht so einen lästigen Falz in der Mitte von zwei Seiten gibt, sondern alles ist eben. Das habe ich auch mit mehreren Bildern ausgenutzt, zwei habe ich ganz über zwei Seiten gelegt und drei andere über 1,5 Seiten.
Viele Druckereien machen es so, dass vor der ersten und hinter der letzten Seite eine blanko Seite kommt, so dass das erste und letzte Bild nicht auf der Rückseite des Covers kleben. Das ist bei diesem Fotobuch leider nicht so, was ich recht schade finde, da das einfach edler und professioneller wirkt. Und ja ich hätte es natürlich vom altem Fotobuch wissen können, habe aber leider nicht mehr daran gedacht. Außerdem müsste man dafür mindestens 2 Seiten verschwenden, was dann wieder in den Geldbeutel geht.
E The product
This time I decided to make a modern and plain design, so I didn't skimp on pages and there are some nearly empty pages in the book. But I really like that, because the pictures just get more attention, when the pages aren't that full. Saal-Digital's home page has a really cool gadget, after the upload you can share your photobook through links. So I can show you my whole photobook here.
Saal-Digital doesn't print any annoying producer logos into your book, there are just two little barcodes that you could remove for a little more money. But I think they are totally okay.
Moreover Saal-Digital uses a method named panoramabond - I hope I translated it right. It means, that there isn't a fold in the middle of two pages, everything is even. So I could print pictures over two pages and others over one and a half pages.
A lot of print shops put a blank page before the first and behind the last page of the book, so the first and last picture isn't sticking on the back of the cover. In this photobook that sadly isn't like that, what's a big contra point, because it just looks better and more professional with the blank pages. And yes I could have known that from my old photobook, but I just didn't think about it. Besides to do this on your own you have to waste at least two pages, what costs money again.
D Fazit
Ich bin ich sehr zufrieden mit dem Fotobuch, die Qualität ist wie immer bei Saal-Digital einfach toll und die Panoramabindung macht das Buch zu etwas ganz besonderem. Die Farben meiner Bilder kommen im Buch sehr gut heraus und das Design ist auch genau so, wie ich es mir vorgestellt habe. Außerdem ist das Fotobuch sehr hochwertig verarbeitet, das Papier und der Einband sind toll anzufassen.
Der Kontra Punkt mit den Blanko-Seiten bleibt natürlich im Raum stehen, damit hätte es mir schon nochmal eine Ecke besser gefallen. Auf der letzten Seite habe ich zwar wie durch ein Wunder kein Bild gedruckt, sondern nur mein Logo, was okay aussieht so auf die Rückseite des Covers gepackt. Aber die erste Seite ist halb Bild und halb Text und das sieht einfach nicht so professionell aus. Vielleicht bin ich da auch einfach nur zu blöd dafür gewesen?

I'm really happy with my photobook, the quality is like always when I print at Saal-Digital just great and the panoramabond makes it really special. The colors of my pictures look really good and the design is just like I imagined it. The photobook is made out of valuable material, the paper and cover feels really nice.
Well, but there is still the contra point with the blank pages. With those the photobook would have looked more professional. On the last page I didn't print any picture, just my logo - lucky me - but the first page looks a little bit weird. But maybe it's my own fault? Maybe that's normal that there are no blanko pages, I don't know.
