Mit gemischten Gefühlen verlasse ich die Philippinen, um nun endlich Kuala Lumpur zu entdecken. Sprach ich zuvor mit Freunden über diese Stadt, so waren die Meinungen zweigeteilt. Begeisterung auf der einen und Enttäuschung auf der anderen Seite. Angekommen erlebe ich eine pulsierende, laute und mit Baustellen gespickte Stadt. Überraschenderweise jedoch fühle ich mich vom ersten Moment an wie zu Hause. Ich bewege mich in dieser Stadt mit einer Selbstverständlichkeit, die ich so nicht erwartet hätte. Zwei Wahrzeichen möchte ich unbedingt sehen und so begebe ich mich bei stickigen 34°C am ersten Tag nach meiner Ankunft zu den Batu Caves. Dieses heilige Höhlensystem dient mehrmals im Jahr hinduistischen Zeremonien. Die Höhen selbst halten wenig Spannendes bereit. Eher ist es der riesige Buddha vor und die nicht enden wollenden Stufen zu den Höhlen. Das Gefühl des heimisch seins wird auf dem Weg die Stufen hinunter noch unterstützt, als ich Angela kennenlerne, deren Bekanntschaft meinen Aufenthalt hier und in Singapur bereichern und zu einer wahren Freundschaft wird.
I have mixed feelings while leaving the Philippines towards Kuala Lumpur. Right before I started my trip to Asia I talked to some friends about the city and not everybody was thrilled by it. It´s a strange feeling, but I feel at home the first minute after arriving at the KL Central station. After checking in at my hotel I buy a map and make my way to the Batu Caves. I´m excited and don´t want to waste any of my short time in this metropolis. The Batu Caves are located 15 minutes outside of the town and are famous for their huge and golden Buddha, as well as for the colorful stairs. Making my way through the town isn´t that hard and reminds me a bit of my hometown Hamburg. Road works, traffic and haze are my constant companion during my stay. In front of the Buddha I can´t believe how pretty the scenery is. The colors and all the religious people turn it into a special place. On my way down the stairs I meet Angela, a lovely person who turns into a good friend on my trip through Asia.
