Es kommt, wie es kommen musste
Nachdem sich Oracle bei der Unterstützung für die Document Foundation beharrlich stur stellt und jegliche Zusammenarbeit ablehnt, haben wohl schon die ersten Entwickler dem OpenOffice Projekt den Rücken gekehrt und sind zu LibreOffice gewechselt. Man spricht zur Zeit von 33 Entwicklern, die sich der Document Foundation bereits angeschlossen haben.
Jacqueline Rahemipour, Co-Lead, OpenOffice.org Board, schrieb dazu:
Although it has been stressed several times that there will be collaboration on a technical level, and changes are possible – there is no indication from Oracle to change it’s mind on the question of the project organization and management. For those who want to achieve such a change, but see no realistic opportunity within the current project and are therefore involved in the TDF, unfortunately this results in an “either / or” question.
The answer for us who sign this letter is clear: We want a change to give the community as well as the software it develops the opportunity to evolve. For this reason, from now on we will support The Document Foundation and will – as a team – develop and promote LibreOffice.
Es wurde also mehrere Male betont, dass eine Zusammenarbeit auf einer technischen Ebene möglich sei. Oracle sieht aber keinen Grund für einen Wechsel bei Projektorganisation und im Managemant. Da ein zweigleisiges Arbeiten sowohl an OpenOffice, als auch innerhalb der Document Foundation nicht gleichzeitig möglich sind, man also nur entweder, oder weiter entwickeln kann, sehen einige keine realistischen Chancen, dass sich bei Oracle und dem OpenOffice-Project in absehbarer Zeit irgendwas ändert.
LibreOffice hat bereits die Unterstützung von Google, Novell, Red Hat, Cannonical usw. Laut Mark Shuttleworth könnte LibreOffice bereits im nächsten Ubuntu das OpenOffice.org ersetzen. Für das OpenOffice-Projekt könnte nicht nur die Personaldecke, sondern auch die Luft dünn werden.
