Despite the club’s official website trying to make us believe that there are some “Christmas Crackers on offer for fans wanting to enjoy a feast of festive football”, this Christmas there won’t be any football played at the Boleyn Ground. Boxing Day as well as New Years Eve will see West Ham United play away from home.
I don’t remember a season within the last decade with West Ham not playing at home between Christmas Eve and New Year. But this year from December 17th (home game vs Barnsley) to Monday, January 2nd, when the Hammers are going to host Coventry City, the Irons’ fans will be unable to watch their beloved team at their own ground in East London.
And unfortunately none of the real ”Christmas crackers” played in between these two matches are going to be staged at a ground in London or nearby. On Boxing Day the Hammers have to travel up to the Northwest to play Birmingham City, and on December 31st they are going to entertain East Midland’s club Derby County at Pride Park.
Hence Christmas has to be performed earlier this year. Santa has to be nice and make his presents one month before Christmas if you’re a Hammers fan and want to watch ”festive football”… Only in this case the package for the next three home games offered by West Ham United would be the perfect Christmas present. The matches against Derby County, Burnley and Barnsley at Upton Park are played on November 26th and December 3rd and 17th respectively.
Well then, some Christmas presents have to be made earlier this year!
And also my very own “Christmas cracker” will take place before Christmas, as we’re going to travel to London in December and we’ll be watching West Ham’s away game at Reading on December 10th.
Very much looking forward to … London, West Ham, and Christmas, of course!
