Ko Phi Phi

Natuerlich durfte fuer uns ein Besuch auf der beruehmten Insel Ko Phi Phi ("ko pi pi") nicht fehlen. Alles, was wir bisher ueber die Insel gehoert haben, ist wahr: Die Straende sind traumhaft schoen (weisser, samtweisser Sand) und das Meer kann es locker mit Tahiti aufnehmen (siehe Blogeintrag vom Januar). Andererseits stimmt es, dass es sich hier um einen der teuersten Plaetze in ganz Thailand handelt, zumindest was die Hotels angeht. Das schreckt aber die "Party-Touristen", die in Scharen besonders aus England anreisen, nicht ab. Wir fuehlen uns abends oft wie auf der Maturareise und staunen ueber die jungen Leute, die Whiskey-Cola aus Kuebeln trinken und sich vor der "after fullmoon party" noch schnell ein Tatoo stechen lassen. Trotzdem lassen wir uns von der Fireshow am Strand bezaubern und machen Tags darauf einen Abstecher zu dem Strand, an dem sich vor mittlerweile 11 Jahren Leonardo Di Caprio das Paradies ertraeumt hat. Der Strand ist traumhaft, die anderen 200 Touristen dort nicht.
Of course we couldn't miss out on a trip to famous Ko Phi Phi ("ko pee pee"). Everything we heard about the island so far is true: The beaches are a dream (white, soft sand) and the sea can compete with that of Tahiti (check blogentry from January). On the other side it's also right that this is one of the most expensive places in Thailand at least considering the hotel prices. But this doesn't scare the party crowd from entering paradise in hordes, mostly from England. We felt a like at spring break and were marvelling at the young guys, gulping Whiskey and Coke out of buckets and getting another tatoo just before hitting the after fullmoon party. Nevertheless we were bewitched by the fireshow and a day later we made a trip to The Beach were a long 11 years ago Leonardo Di Caprio dreamed of paradise. The beach is perfect, the other 200 tourists visiting it aren't.
