Jaipur

Obwohl eine Ecke des Goldenen Dreiecks koennen wir Jaipur nicht viel Gutes abgewinnen: es ist dreckig (auch fuer indische Verhaeltnisse), es gibt wenige interessante Sehenswuerdigkeiten und wenn die Leute uns nicht eine ueberteuerte Tuktuk-Fahrt oder Seidenschals andrehen wollen, starren sie uns ernst an. Was uns gefaellt ist der Jantar Mantar, ein Park mit riesigen astronomischen Messinstrumenten, im Auftrag des Maharaja's im 18. Jahrhundert erbaut. Diese Instrumente sollten dem Koenig helfen, Daten mit der besten kosmischen Energie fuer Zeremonien usw. zu berechnen. Ausserdem konnte auch die Zeit abgelesen werden. Ausserdem gibt es den Stadtpalast und den Hawa Mahal ("Palast der Winde") mit seinen 953 kleinen Fenstern, der eigens dafuer errichtet wurde, dass die Damen des Hofes das Strassengeschehen ausserhalb beobachten konnten, ohne sich zu zeigen. So was wuenschen wir uns auch des Oefteren. Etwas ausserhalb von Jaipur besuchen wir das Amber Fort mit seinen schoenen Garten und Wandmalereien und freuen uns auf unsere Weiterreise..
Altough one of the corners of the Golden Triangle we don't like much about Jaipur: it's dirty (also in Indian terms), there are limited touristic sites and if the people don't want to rip us of with overpriced tuk-tuk rides or silk shawls, they just stare at us sternly. What we like however is the Jantar Mantar, a kind of park with huge astronomical instruments which were built on the Maharajahs order in the 18th century. These devices should help the king calculate the dates on which the cosmic energies for spiritual rituals are at their best. Besides that, the time could be read as well. Besides that there is the city palace and the Hawa Mahal ("palace of the winds") with its 953 little windows which were built for the women of the palace to observe the street scene without exposing themselves to the public. That's exactly what we sometimes wish for. A short ride outside of town we visit the Amber Fort which is home of many beautiful gardens and wall paintings and are looking forward to continue our journey...
