Aus dem provinzialisch anmutenden Vietnam (dem wir nicht lange nachtrauerten) werden wir mitten in die pulsierende Metropole Hong Kong gebeamt. Dank den vielen Tipps, die uns Naomi, eine britische Saengerin, die hier lebt, gegeben hat, fiel es uns nicht schwer, durch den Grossstadtdschungel zu navigieren. Und weil hier alles so zackig laeuft wie der ultramoderne Airportexpress, beschraenkten wir uns auf einige interessante kurze Fakten zu dieser Wahnsinnsstadt und natuerlich die photographischen Impressionen.
HK ist eine der am dichtesten bevoelkerten Staedte der Welt mit 6480 Einwohnern pro km2(zum Vergleich: in Zuerich sind es 4235, in Tokio 14.385 Einwohner pro km2). Dies erklaert auch die horrenden Immobilienpreise. So gilt unser fensterloses 6m2-grosses Kaemmerchen im Zentrum fuer 50 Franken die Nacht als Budget-Unterkunft.
In HK besitzen mehr Menschen einen Rolls Royce als in jeder anderen Stadt der Welt. Andere Luxusmodelle von Bentley, Maserati oder Mercedes sind jedoch auch sehr gut vertreten.
HK ist die Stadt mit den meisten Wolkenkratzern (Gebaeude mit mindestens 14 Stockwerken) der Welt. Es gibt um die 8000 Hochhaeuser hier, in New York sind es nur etwa halb so viele.
HK ist absolut shoppingverrueckt: man kann um 11 Uhr nachts in der Causeway Bay aus der MTR steigen und die Strassen sind voll von Schnaeppchenjaegern. Das heisseste Pflaster fuer Shoppaholics ist aber wahrscheinlich die Nathan Road in Kowloon, wo einfach jede internationale Marke der Welt vertreten ist (ich war noch nie so gluecklich, einen H&M zu sehen!). Wer ein exquisites lokales Souvenir erstehen moechte, sollte sich die geschnitzten Skulpturen aus Mammutzahn genauer ansehen.
