The Sound of Music (Meine Lieder - meine Träume) basiert auf dem Musical „The Sound of Music" von Richard Rodgers und Oscar Hammerstein. Er wurde 1965 von Regisseur Robert Wise produziert und zum ersten mal am 2. März 1965 im Rivoli Theatre in Manhattan gezeigt. In Deutschland kam er an Weihnachten 1965 in die Kinos. Der Film prägte vor allem in den USA das Image und eine Art „heile Welt Utopie" von Österreich und ist dort einer der erfolgreichsten Musikfilmen überhaupt. In Deutschland war der Erfolg nur gering, weswegen sich viele Europäer wundern warum es in Salzburg einen gigantischen Hype um den Film und viele entsprechende Tourenangebote für Touristen aus Amerika und Asien gibt.
The film is based on a musical with the same name, created by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. The premiere was in 1965 in the Rivoli theatre, Manhattan. The Sound of Music is one of the most popular music-films in the States and it created a feeling or image of austria, which a lot of tourists like and seek, when visiting Salzburg. In Salzburg you can book special guided tours and visit the filming locations. However as the movie was not very popular during the 60s in austria, germany or other european countries, a lot of europeans dont even know the film and are often amazed why there is such a hype about it..
