The whole day we drove through the rain and all we could see on the horizon was mist instead of the spectacular Himalayan ranges. When we arrived at the Everest Base Camp at 5200 m, we checked in at our yakhair tent. Despite the furious heating attempts with yak dung (yes, truly every bit of the yak is processed in some way) and some hot tea we felt freezing cold. Despite the dizziness and the shortness of breath we walk up the last 3 km in the rain to the second camp. But we are not rewarded for our actions: Mount Everest is covered with clouds and we stand in front of a white wall. Quite disappointed we return to the tent and get some rest. And suddenly the heavens open literally and we see it: the highest peak in the world, Mount Everest, 8848m high. With this amazing view all the difficulties are quickly forgotten. We can't get enough of the giant. We arrived on the roof of the world.
