Buchpost #61

Brave New World (Aldous Huxley)Buchpost #61Klappentext:
It is the year 632 After Ford and "stability" is the primary of the World State ad the ideal society it has created. In laboratories worldwide, genetic science has brought the human race to perfection. People are bred and conditioned to be blissfully content with their role in society and to be permanently happy. But, in the Central London Hatchery and Conditioning Centre, Bernard Marx is unhappy and harbours an unnatural desire to break free.
Fahrenheit 451 (Ray Bradbury)Klappentext:
Buchpost #61Guy Montag is a fireman. In his world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden.
Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television "family". But then he meets an eccentric young neighbor, Clarisse, who introduces him to a past where people didn't live in fear and to a present where one sees the world through the ideas in books instead of the mindless chatter of television.
When Mildred attempts suicide and Clarisse suddenly disappears, Montag begins to question everything he has ever known. He starts hiding books in his home, and when his pilfering is discovered, the fireman has to run for his life.
We (Yevgeny Zamyatin)Klappentext:
Buchpost #61In the One State of the great Benefactor, there are no individuals, only numbers. Life is an ongoing process of mathematical precision, a perfectly balanced equation. Primitive passions and instincts have been subdued. Even nature has been defeated, banished behind the Green Wall. But one frontier remains: outer space. Now, with the creation of the spaceship Integral, that frontier - and whatever alien species are to be found there - will be subjagated to the beneficent yoke of reason.
One number, D-503, chief architect of the Integral, decides to record his thoughts in the final days before the launch for the benefit of less advanced societies. But a chance meeting with the beautiful I-330 results in an unexpected discovery that threatens everything D-503 believes about himself and the One State. The discovery - or rediscovery - of inner space... and that disease the ancients called the soul.
1984 (George Orwell)Buchpost #61Klappentext:
Hidden away in the Record Department of the sprawling Ministry of Truth, Winston Smith skilfully rewrites the past to suit the needs of the Party. Yet he inwardly rebels against the totalitarian world he lives in, which demands absolute obedience and controls him through the all-seeing telescreens and the watchful eye of Big Brother, symbolic head of the Party. In his longing for truth and liberty, Smith begins a secret love affair with a fellow-worker, Julia, but soon discovers the true piece of freedom is betrayal.
