D Die gefühlt ewig langen Semesterferien sind vorbei und ich habe an meinem vorletzten freien Wochenende noch einen kleinen Wochenendtrip unternommen. Dieses mal war das Reiseziel unsere Hauptstadt, Berlin. Anlass dazu war, dass ich Karten für ein Konzert meiner absoluten Lieblingsband "The Pretty Reckless" bekommen habe. Es war nicht mein erstes Mal in Berlin sondern sogar schon das Vierte, somit kannte ich im Grunde schon alles. Trotzdem habe ich an dem Wochenende viel unternommen und in diesem Post möchte ich dir ein bisschen von meiner Reise berichten.
E My really long semester break - it felt like it lasted forever - is over now, but at my second last weekend I made a little trip again. This time my destination was our German capital, Berlin. The main occasion for that trip was, that I got some concert tickets of my absolutely favorite band "The Pretty Reckless". It wasn't my first time in Berlin, in total it's the forth and so I knew nearly everything. Nevertheless, my boyfriend and I made a lot of different things and today I want to tell you everything about my journey.
D Donnerstag Mittag ging es mit der Bahn los nach Berlin, schlafen durften mein Freund und ich netterweise bei einer Verwandten und konnten uns somit ein Hotel sparen. Nachdem wir unsere Sachen dort abgeladen haben ging es gleich zum Konzert. "The Pretty Reckless" ist eine Rockband und in ihrer Szene recht bekannt. Die Tickets waren zumindest nach 2 Stunden ausverkauft und ich hatte total Glück, welche bekommen zu haben. Stattgefunden hat das Konzert in einem kleinen Club namens Lido in Kreuzberg. Als wir dort ankamen war die Schlange schon recht lang, wir sind aber zügig reingekommen. Ich liebe Konzerte in kleinen Clubs, weil man noch so schlecht stehen kann und trotzdem alles sieht - wenn man nicht so unheimlich klein wäre wie ich. Eine Vorband gab es leider nicht und die Band kam fast eine Stunde zu spät auf die Bühne. Nichtsdestotrotz war die Stimmung prima, es wurden vor allem alte Lieder gespielt und nur ein einziges aus dem neuen Album. Enttäuscht war ich dann aber doch ziemlich, als Taylor - die Sängerin - nach ungefähr einer Stunde ankündigte, dass jetzt der letzte Song kommt. Danach ist die komplette Band ohne Tschüss oder Zugabe von der Bühne gerauscht, das Licht ging an und Securities haben angefangen den Club zu räumen. Für mich hätte der Abend schöner enden können und etwas mehr erwartet hatte ich auch.
E On Thursday afternoon we started our trip with the train to Berlin, we could sleep at the house of a cousin and so we saved the money for a hotel. After we brought our stuff there, we had to rush to the concert. "The Pretty Reckless" is a rockband and in it's scene it's pretty famous. At least the tickets were sold out after two hours and I had some good luck that I got some. The concert was in a little club called Lido in the district Kreuzberg. When we came there, a lot of people already stood in the row to come in, but it didn't take so long. I love concerts in little clubs because it doesn't matter where you stand, you can always see the stage quite good. Sadly there was no opening act and the band started about an hour too late. Nevertheless they made a great atmosphere and a nice performance. They played a lot of old songs and one of the new album. I was really disappointed when Taylor - the singer - announced that they will play the last song now after only one hour. After that song the band left the stage without saying goodbye or giving an encore, the light was turned on and the securities emptied the club. For me the evening could have had a better end and I somehow expected more than that.
D Am nächsten Tag sind wir vom Potsdamer Platz ausgehend einmal durch die Innenstadt geschlendert, auf dieser Route kann man schon alles mitnehmen: das Holocaust Denkmal, das Brandenburger Tor, die Friedrichstraße, den Dom,... Außerdem sind wir noch zu den Hackeschen Höfen, wo ich immer wirklich gern hingehe. Genau wie ich es in Erinnerung hatte konnte man dort wunderschön von Hof zu Hof schlendern und es gibt süße kleine Läden mit tollen Dingen.
Abends war dann das Festival of Lights, bei dem bekannte Gebäude in Berlin mit Lichterkunst angestrahlt werden. Gesehen haben wir die Nikolaikirche, den Dom und die Humboldt-Universität. Ich war ziemlich begeistert von dieser Lichterkunst, zumal das ganze noch ganz schön mit Musik untermalt wurde. Bilder werde ich leider nicht zeigen, da das ganze urheberrechtlich geschützt ist - wieso muss man es Bloggern auch immer so verdammt schwer machen?!
Am nächsten Tag ging es dann nach Potsdam, wovon ich aber nochmal gesondert in einem anderen Reisebericht erzählen werde.
E On the next day we started a walk through the inner city at the "Potsdamer Platz" and made a route where you see nearly everything: the Holocaust Memorial, the Brandenburg Gate, the Friedrichstraße, the cathedral, ... Besides we walked through the "Hackesche Höfe", which is kind of a shopping center but it's outside and you have different courts and really small shops with special things. It's just awesome, I love this shops and all the great things you can find there.
In the evening was the Festival of Lights, where well-known buildings of the city get spotlighted with art. We saw the Nikolaikirche, the cathedral and the Humboldt university. I was pretty excited about this light art and it got accompanied with nice music. Sadly I can't show you pictures because of copyright stuff - in Germany it's like everyone hate bloggers, because everything is so complicated with the copyright.
On the next day we made a trip to Potsdam, a nearby city, which I will tell you everything about in another post.
D Und wie schmeckt Berlin nun? An Essen findet man dort natürlich eine riesige Auswahl, so wie in jeder Großstadt. Zum Frühstück haben wir um die Ecke von unserer Unterkunft das Cafe Mainzer gefunden, das eine Mischung aus türkischem und deutschem Gebäck anbot. Dort haben wir eigentlich immer gefrühstückt. Für mich ist das übrigens das perfekte Beispiel an Integration: die eigene Kultur beibehalten, aber auch die andere annehmen. Und das Gebäck war sehr lecker.
Zum Abendessen hat es uns einmal in das Restaurant "Zum Nußbaum" im Nikolaiviertel verschlagen. Dort gibt es solide, deutsche Küche zu vernünftigen Preisen. Außerdem macht das Lokal historisch was her, denn es ist die älteste Gaststätte Berlins. Auch hat mir gefallen, dass man sich wenn Platz ist auch mit anderen Gästen den Tisch teilt und so doch eine rege Interaktion stattfindet.
Dann haben wir noch den "Berliner Hof" besucht, ein Restaurant in der Nähe des Bundesplatzes - wo unsere Unterkunft war. Auch dort gab es deutsche Küche und das auch noch recht billig. Das Essen war sehr lecker und ich hatte meine erste Kürbissuppe in diesem Jahr sowie Schnitzel und Kartoffelsalat. Außerdem war der Wirt total nett.
E And now the question is: how does Berlin taste? You can find nearly every food you desire in this city - well, like in every bigger city. We always ate breakfast in a cafe around the corner of our accommodation, it was called Cafe Mainzer. There they got really good Turkish and German pastry. For me thats by the way the perfect example for integration: keeping your own culture but also accepting and living the other. And the pastry was really delicious.
We had our first dinner in a restaurant called "Zum Nußbaum" in Nikolaiviertel. There you get some great German food for good prices. And the restaurant also has a history: it's the oldest tavern of Berlin. I also loved that they seat you together with other guests and so you have some interaction in the whole restaurant.
Our second and last dinner was at the "Berliner Hof", a restaurant near the Bundesplatz - where we lived. They also had great German food and were pretty cheap. The food was delicious and I had my first pumpkin soup of the year and some schnitzel with potato salad. Besides the host was really nice and friendly.
