Beastly brilliant?

I promised my son a trip overstepping the borders of the city. As unselfish as I am, I suggested the chocolate museum in Cologne, but unfortunately, it was closed over carnival. An alternative was the zoo. I and the zoo, I do not know. Only the circus exceeds my critical opinion. But for the child…

Do these animals look agonised and suffering? I suffered from these balls in black and white. Man, I was scared. They moved around freely and were very interested in the wheelchair and I could only think of the sign „They bite“ and of the ADHD- barker of my neighbour which always runs amok when I approach because it is afraid of my wheelchair. Surely, it is not all nature there, but humans are also very far away from nature. It is a pity that we cannot ask the animals whether they would prefer not getting brought their food. Basically, the animals live like we or like we would like to live. A life of chilling out and entertainment. Without stress or enemies. And without touching nature somebody like me would already be dead.

Despite of all chilling, I ask myself whether everyone is grateful of the chilling living situation. I ask myself whether the size of the cage lives up to the temper. The African hunting dog was not at all relaxed, but running around. It will probably die of old age, other than its congener, since as I found out, they are critically endangered.

Unfortunately, you cannot cant anything here. Sure, the grids are better for climbing and swinging and so on, but somehow it makes me depressive. Yet, those are more related to us that any other species, what does this tell us about our society? And what I would like to know is how an animal perceives the grids, despite of the fact that the food is brought to you and that you have no more natural enemies? Above all, the majority is born in the zoo, is it not? When I was in the monkey’s house I did not have the impression that they were bored. There was a lot of action. So the pictures are only snapshots or do they reflect the truth? Difficult. I still do not know what to think of zoos. Children like it, but should this be the only thing that counts?
