In dieser Woche wurde in New York City eine Gedanktstatur für den Künstler Andy Warhol der Öffentlichkeit präsentiert. Diese trägt den Titel The Andy Monument und ist an der Ecke Broadway 17th Street zu finden, wo Warhol in de 70er Jahren sein Studio hatte. Ganz in glänzendem Silber steht nun das Anbild des Pop-Art Künstlers auf einem Sockel. Geschaffen wurde die Skulptur von dem Künstler Rob Pruitt.
Pruitt sagte über das Monument :
“Like so many other artists and performers and people who don’t fit in because they’re gay or otherwise different, Andy moved here to become who he was, to fulfill his dreams and make it big. He still represents that courage and that possibility. That’s why I came to New York, and that’s what my Andy Monument is about.”
Damit wäre meine Lieblingsstadt um eine Sehenswürdigkeit reicher, die es wert ist besucht zu werden.
