AMD enthüllte heute auf der E3 den ersten kommerziellen 5 GHz-Prozessor aus der FX-Familie. Der AMD FX-9590 ist ein Octa-core Prozessor, der die Gaming und Multimedia-Performance auf Desktop-Rechnern verschnellern soll.
“At E3 this week, AMD demonstrated why it is at the core of gaming,” sagte Bernd Lienhard, Corporate Vice President und General Manager für Client Produkte bei AMD. "The new FX 5 GHz processor is an emphatic performance statement to the most demanding gamers seeking ultra-high resolution experiences including AMD Eyefinity technology. This is another proud innovation for AMD in delivering the world’s first commercially available 5 GHz processor.”

Neben dem 5 GHz-Prozessor wird es auch den kleineren FX-9370 mit 4,7 GHz geben.
AMD ist seit Jahren Voreiter bei neuen Sachen. Im Mai 2000 brachen sie die 1 GHz-Marke und brachten den ersten Windows 64-bit kompaktiblen Prozessor auf den Markt. Außerdem hatte AMD den ersten Dual- und Quad-Core Prozessor auf dem Markt. Weiterhin brachte AMD die erste APU auf den Markt und die ersten x86 Quad-Core SoC.
