Diese merkwürdig aussehenden Dinger sind schwer zu finden, in Europa genauso wie in Thailand. Vor ein paar Wochen haben thailändische Freunde sie auf dem Markt gekauft und abends mitgebracht, um sie mir zu zeigen.
Es war sehr schwer, herauszubekommen, was genau „das“ ist, und genauso schwer, „das“ auf dem Markt zu finden. Als ich „das“ endlich auf dem Markt sah, war ein Wolkenbruch im Anzug, ich musste schnell nach Hause und hatte keine Zeit, noch ein Foto zu machen. Immerhin konnte ich später noch dieses Bild hier machen.
Also, was ist „das“?
„Das“ heisst Wassernuss, Water Caltrop, Water Chestnut und in Thai Grajab, กระจับ
Als ich den deutschen und englischen Namen herausbekommen hatte, fand ich Näheres in Wikipedia
Hier gibt es auch ein Video, leider nur in Thai, aber trotzdem recht informativ.
Meine Freunde sagen, dass die Nüsse gekocht und dann geschält werden, bevor man sie isst. Anscheinend haben sie eine kurze Saison, und sie wachsen wohl vorwiegend im Norden Thailands. Wenn Ihr das Glück habt, sie auf einem thailändischen Markt zu finden, probiert doch mal und berichtet!
These strange looking things are hard to find, either in Thailand or Europe. A few weeks ago, my Thai friends bought one at the market and brought it to the local bar to show me.
It was difficult to find out exactly what it was, and similarly hard to find in the market. Eventually I saw one, but rain was threatening, so I had to rush home without taking a picture. Nonetheless, I managed to get this photo later.So, what is it?
It’s called Grajab, Wassernuss, Water Caltrop, Water Chestnut, or in Thai, กระจับ.
I had to find the German and English name for it, and then search Wikipedia.

My Thai friends tell me that the nuts are cooked and then eaten after being peeled. Their season seems to be very short, and they are grown in the North of Thailand. If you're lucky to find some at a local market, try them and tell me what you think.
