Also, nicht dass wir so etwas nötig haben: Can Tho hat eine Reihe von Einkaufszentren. In denen kann man eh nicht viel kaufen. Einerseits können sich dies nur, sagen wir mal, etwas wohlbetuchtere Vietnamesen leisten, zum Anderen ist das Angebot aber auch eher bescheiden (Nichts gegen die Supermärkte da, aber gegen den Markt mit seinen frischen Sachen können die wirklich nicht mithalten).
In der 30 Thang 4 hat nun auch ein weiteres Zentrum aufgemacht. Aber hier finden sich nur Elektronikartikel. Danach sind Vietnamesen ja verrückt. Seltsamerweise haben viele kein Geld, um sich Essen zu leisten, aber für den neuesten Flachbildschirm ist da immer etwas drin. Aber vielleicht liegt da ja gerade der Zusammenhang für die akute Geldknappheit.
Dieser Strukturwandel ist auf den einerseits wirtschaftlichen Aufschwung in diesem Land, andererseits aber auch auf den gehobeneren Lebensstandard zurückzuführen. In ein paar Jahren werden die kleinen Läden verschwinden, die Märkte genauso, und die Vietnamesen eben auch alles im Supermarkt kaufen wie wir das in Deutschland auch tun.

Soon! It is coming! Can Tho too gets civilized: We get a Big C! It will be outside of the city, in the outskirts of Cai Rang, directly at the intersection of Soc Trang-Vinh Long Street and the Street to Quang Trung Bridge. But, we have one now!I mean, a Big C, is not really necessary. Can Tho has a lot of malls and shopping centers already. And in these, you cannot buy much. Only Vietnamese with a higher income can afford buying things in the shopping malls, and the offers are also very small. Nothing against these supermarkets, but they cannot stand against the markets with their fresh foods.
In the 30 Thang 4 Street has just opened a new shopping center. Anyway, you only find electronical stuff there. Vietnamese go crazy for all eletronics. Strangely, they have money to buy the latest flat screen TV but no money for buying some food for dinner. Maybe there might be a direct correlation between these two facts.
This structural changes can be ascribed to the economic development on one hand, and the higher living standard on the other. In some years the Vietnamese housewife will also buy in the supermarket, the small shops will vanish and also the markets will close, like it did in Germany and the west.
