Da bin ich wieder… nach unserem Traumtrip über Bagan und Inle ging es zurück nach Mandalay. Der letzte Tag im Traumland Burma wartete auf uns. Aber nicht nur das…

4 Uhr morgens stand natürlich auch Mr. Aung Aung mit seinem Kumpel und Motorrädern bereit, um uns vom Bus ins Hotel zu fahren. 9 Uhr ging es dann los auf unsere Stadtrundfahrt Teil 2. Erst durch die traditionellen Gewerbe Burmas. Vom Blattgoldproduzenten über eine riesige Buddhafabrik zur Holzschnitzerei. Danach sind wir ins benachbarte Dorf Amarapuru aufgebrochen. Dieses ist bekannt zum einen für die längste Teakholzbrücke der Erde, U Bein, die 1,2km den Taungthaman See überquert.

Des weiteren liegt dort das Mahagandaryon Kloster, welches mehr als 1500 Mönche beherbergt und wieder einen fantastischen Einblick in das burmesische Leben bot. Trotz vieler Touristen war es unglaublich. Ich hatte mich 5min auf einen Bordstein gesetzt und schon hatte ich meinen privaten Führer. Mönch Peter zeigte mir die Küche, Essensräume, Schule und Herbergen… Genial! Diese Mönche hier sind ganz anders als überall in Asien… sie wollen einfach nur Englisch reden und ein bisschen was von ihrem Leben teilen… und natürlich über Fussball quatschen ;)

Nachmittags sind wir über den Irrawady ins 20km entfernte Mingun gefahren.  Drei große Sehenswürdigkeiten machen es zu einem beliebten Ausflugsziel: die Ruine der unvollendeten Mingun Pagode (die durch ein Erdbeben noch unvollendeter aussieht), das Haus mit der größten intakten Glocke der Welt und die bezaubernde Hsinbyume-Pagode.

Aung Aung unser ständig Kautabak kauender (und wohl auch ein wenig zugedröhnter) Fahrer brachte uns heile zurück. Das Suchtmittel Nr. 1 in Burma besteht aus Kalk, Betelnuss-Kruemeln, Anis oder Pfefferminz und Kautabak, die in ein gruenes Blatt gewickelt werden und in die Wange gesteckt wird. Ganz Burma ist der Sucht danach verfallen. Nahezu alle Männer haben die blutrote Zähne und spucken die rote Suppe ständig auf die Strasse. Ueberall am Boden sind blutrote Flecken. Es brauchte auch für uns einige um uns daran zu gewoehnen und nicht mehr nur auf deren Zähne zu schauen.

Abends sahen wir auf unserer Dachterasse unseres Hotel einen super Sonnenuntergang…
